Some have a wedding rehearsal, others a dress rehearsal all in the name of being prepared. You momma’s aint got nuthin’ on me when it comes to being prepared for my next baby. Last night we had a birth rehearsal for my third child. Yes, you read that right. We. Had. A. Birth. Rehearsal. Unplanned and unexpected, let me walk you through one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.
3:30am: Felt tightening in my stomach, and a whole lot of pressure in the south
4:45am: Woke up with the same tightening, and now a dull lower back pain
6:30am: Decided to get up and let Award Winning Dad know today may be the big day
8:00am: More possible “contractions”, but since the tightening and pressure were so sporadic I decided to go about my day, drop Lil’J off at school, drycleaners and post office…shiz gotta get done
10:15am: Decided to have a lunch date with Big T at Tim Horton’s (his pick). We talked about being a good big brother and he asked me to have the baby today so we can have the party**…ummm ok
**We created a party box (of random Dollar Store stuff the boys picked out) for them to set up when Award Winning Dad and I are “picking” the baby up from the hospital. Hoping this would keep the their minds on something other than Award Winning Dad and I being gone for an extended period of time
11:00am: My neighbour pops by to tell me she wanted to check on me, she had a feeling my baby was coming. Still having sporadic tightening, pressure in the south, and just annoying back pain now
12:00pm: My mother-in-law cames over for dinner, I left to get Lil’J from school, and Award Winning Dad decided to work from home for the rest of the afternoon
4:00pm: Started to feel stronger tightening, and more pressure. Award Winning Dad was taking Big T to his sports class, it being across from the hospital I asked him to drop me off to quickly check this pain out and swing back after the class and pick me up…no biggie I will be out in blink
5:00pm: Got all hooked up to all sorts of monitors to learn I was in fact having contractions, which were now 10-12 minutes apart, 1cm dilated..What the hell, so much for the blink
6:00pm: Called the family, everyone went to where they needed to be. My mother in law and sister with our boys, and my parents joining Award Winning Dad and I at the hospital.
7:00pm: Contractions 5 mins apart, 1 cm dilated
7:30pm: My sister sends text pictures of the house decorated with the party box supplies and the boys having a blast. I’m scared and excited at the same time
9:00pm: Contractions 2-3 mins apart, 2 cm dilated, they moved us to a delivery room, got me started on an IV for fluid, took my blood work, and gave drugs for pain…love drugs, just sayin’
10:00pm: Contractions move to 5 mins apart
11:30pm: Contractions move to 10 minutes apart
1:00am: Contractions move to 15 minutes apart
2:00am: Contractions disappear completely
5:30am: They sent us home
I still can’t wrap my head around being in labour, and then not? I guess the one good thing is, we executed a flawless birth plan; the kids were great, all our support was exactly where we needed them, my bags were packed with everything we needed. We’re good to go for the real thing!
Note: It was kind of sad to show up at “the party” without the one thing I was supposed to bring.
