I just had to share this story because it made me laugh out loud. I was not there, but Award Winning Dad helped write this to be sure I had the facts straight and so we never forget why our kids will never believe a word we say again.
Award Winning Dad always gets up early with the boys allowing me to spend an extra half an hour or so in La La land before reality hits. This particular morning was like any other; they all congregate in one room, play, chat, read, brush and wash up for breakfast. Award Winning Dad usually leads the pack down to the dark main floor hitting each switch along the way to start breakfast. Lil’J, antsy for breakfast, took a few hesitant steps down. He stops.
Lil’J: “Daddy, will you come with me?”
AWD: “Go down and get your stuff, there is nothing to be afraid of.”
Lil’J: “Daddy there is no such thing as ghosts.”
AWD: “Yeah, you’re right there isn’t!”
Big T: “Yeah they’re just pretend.”
AWD: “Just like Darth Maul is pretend, like Darth Vader is pretend.”
Big T: “Just like the Three Little Pigs are pretend.”
AWD: “There is nothing to be scared about.”
Now you are thinking… yeah there is nothing to be afraid of kids, Dad is coming, and if he says there is nothing to be scared about, then… there is absolutely nothing to be scared of. Right? Wrong!
As soon as Award Winning Dad ended that reassuring, “trust me” statement… the power on our block goes out!
The entire house goes pitch black. The house alarm starts blaring. The clocks switch off. All the neighbours alarm’s all start sounding off. The kids are staring at him in absolute h.o.r.r.o.r. Lil’J pulls a matrix fly over to Award Winning Dad’s leg. Big T hops onto the other. Both with eyes bulging stare up at him terrified.
… and you were saying Dad?
